THE BACK STORY
The Sunday Night Jam @ MJ's Social Club — a true South Central L.A. blues club, a juke joint — the night after I wrote the song. No rehearsal. The band had never heard it.
I performed it cold. Two chords, making up the lyrics as I sang them.
I did NOT know it was being recorded. A fan in the room pulled out his cell phone, hit record, and captured that first-ever live performance.
That fan later sent me the cell phone recording.
When I heard it back, saw the video — the raw vocal, the band catching the spirit in real time, the room responding — I felt this song was meant to be heard.
I put it on YouTube. The response was... "Great song but I can't hear the lyrics... is there anything you can do to fix it?"
So I did.
That accidental cell phone recording became the template. The 2026 Remix is built on that sacred first take — the odd bars, the tempo changes — the overdubs were made on the original recording, never losing the urgency of that night in that juke joint.
